Permanent Power a Critical Milestone on Construction Projects

Establishing permanent power is one of the first and most important objectives of any construction or renovation project. There are, however, many time-consuming processes, activities and obstacles that can stand in the way of reaching this critical milestone in a timely fashion. Omni Instrumentation & Electrical Contractors, Inc. can streamline the process of achieving permanent power.

Among the issues that can arise during establishment of permanent power are lengthy reviews, late requests for information (RFI), missing electrical coordination study information, and delays in obtaining fabrication information and delivery dates from vendors, not to mention conflicting schedules and priorities of the various people involved with the project. These delays can quickly add up to weeks or even months of time (which few projects can afford) without the guidance of an experienced, capable electrical contractor like Omni to shepherd the process.

One effective way to expedite the permanent power process is to hold a kick-off meeting in which all deliverables and time frames are solidly established and all parties agree to their part. Additional meetings should be held at major milestones and to discuss RFIs, the electrical coordination study, and, most importantly, submittal reviews between designers, manufacturers, and contractors. Such meetings are now commonly held virtually, which allows for even more expedient and cost-saving equipment approvals.

Beyond the obvious benefits, establishment of a permanent supply of power marks a psychological turning point for the various trades, spurring completion of important secondary and tertiary schedule items such as ventilation, heating and cooling that allow flooring, casework, and various other architectural items and finishes. Working elevators that can move people and materials to boost project productivity, as does a well-lit, comfortably conditioned working environment.
